Living Room, Broad Street Sunday 18 May 2003
An exploration into the sublime connections between urban Architecture, Dance and Music. Lead artist, performer and architect Saranjit Birdi assembles jazz musicians and dancers that he has performed with over the last 20 years. The evening juxtaposes architectural and digital images as a backdrop to a performance by jazz-fusion band 'Effusion' with Tidu Mankoo on guitar, Biddy Mankoo on drums, Felix Ruiz on keyboards, and Rob Genko on bass; and improvisational jazz dance by artists including Shaun Cope, Yvonne Finch and Devon 'Smiler' Edwards. This is followed by a freestyle dance session to the contemporary urban-fusion beats of the legendary DJ Bruce Q and dancer/DJ Gonzo of the Living Room. Photographic work by Devon is also on display.
